Nearly 50 people of many ethnicities gathered at St Anne's, Ranui for the 10am communion service on Sunday 16th September. The theme for the day had us thinking about how we use our tongues! One of the Bible readings included James 3 :9-10 "My dear friends, with our tongues we speak both praises and curses. We praise our Lord and Father, and we curse people who were created to be like God, and this isn’t right." Among other things after reflecting on this and other passages and comments we prayed together for our speech to be edifying and that it give glory to God. During the service the congregation were introduced to the Reverend Terry Alve who is acting priest in charge for the next period. Terry with his wife Margaret and two of their children, a daughter in law, plus six of their grandchildren were warmly embraced by the congregation. A highlight was the cutting of a very brightly coloured cake which was devoured with enthusiasm. Terry and Margaret, indeed all their grandchildren, live in Tawa or Linden.

Our fifth Sunday regional cluster Anglican Service for September will be held at St Christopher's, Main Road, Tawa at 10am.
The service will be addressed by assistant Bishop Ellie Sanderson and will be followed by morning tea. There will be NO morning service at St Anne's this Sunday. Some might say that Christians have too much to say. Others assert that Christians are long on talk but short on action; at least action that makes a positive difference in people's lives. I would say that perhaps it is not that we need to say less, nor do more; rather it would be better that we are content just to BE.
With the modicum of wisdom that age offers me, I have become a more contemplative Christian. The list of aspirations above are the values that have grown more important to me as the years have molded me. If we were all able to better practise these virtues, I believe that not only would the Church be a better place; but our community would be too. What do you think? Terry - Priest in Charge |
