When you donate to St Anne's Pantry Foodbank through our Give a Little page you are assisting children and families in Porirua to rise a little above their very real challenges and needs. The value of a typical food parcel delivery is around $160. While much of this has been provided by donated food, each parcel contains purchased goods. During the second half of 2021 we are seeking community support to raise $20,000 though Give a Little.

Since publication we have just received news that Nikau Foundation have granted $10,000 for the purchase of groceries during the next six months. This grant comes from their Porirua District Fund. A BIG THANK YOU to Nikau Foundation.
36 Shoe Box Care Packages have been added to resources that St Anne's Pantry will deliver before Christmas. Local Rotarians put in a sterling effort to lovingly gather and pack 36 shoe boxes which the Pantry collected last night. From today these will be added to grocery parcel packages being sent around Porirua and Linden. Thank you again June and your team at Porirua Rotary Club.
Porirua Rotary have done it again. Their two recent Aotea collections of groceries have netted more than $1,000 worth of groceries for pre-Christmas distribution by St Anne's Pantry. Between these Aotea collections and their participation in the Porirua New World Family2Family Appeal in June, Porirua Rotary have ensured that St Anne's Pantry have been donated $2,000 of groceries this year. The Pantry greatly appreciates, as do Porirua Households, the support that June and her Porirua Rotary Team offers. We thank you for your generous hearts.

Porirua Rotarians have continued their support for St Anne's Pantry into the lead up to Christmas 2020.
Earlier in the year they supported the Porirua New World Family2Family Appeal and donated $1000 worth of Groceries for Pantry distribution.
Pictured are local Rotarians collecting donated groceries in Aotea suburb at the Jasmine Underhill Reserve on Wednesday 25th November - exactly a month before Christmas. People responded to a leaflet drop done earlier. Groceries to the value of $300-400 were collected.
Aotea folk will have another opportunity to donate groceries at the same venue between 11-1pm on Saturday 28th November.
t was in 1984 that Bill Summers who worked in the Registry at Victoria University and as a marriage celebrant, approached the Porirua Anglican Vicar the Reverend Jonathon Boyes (pictured in 2020) suggesting the Lord had told him to donate food for the people of Porirua. Bill and his wife Marjorie were members of the Khandallah Presbyterian Church and had earlier approached Presbyterian ministers in Porirua who were unresponsive to their suggestion.
Jonathon’s response was to form the Porirua Anglican Co-operative Trust (PACT). Pat Higham assisted with administration and Jean Stratford was involved from the beginning using her practical skills. A garden was started where the unemployed could grow food. In 1985 20 families were receiving food parcels in the Ranui area and churches from Otaki to Khandallah quickly caught the vision and were supportive providing food and financial donations. Jonathan remembers pumpkins and cabbages came from Otaki and 5 cords of wood were dropped off at the Vicarage in Cannons Creek and wheelbarrowed to many destinations.
Jonathon’s ministry ended Christmas 1886 and the Pantry continued under the new Vicar Michael Watson. In 1989 PACT was re-titled St Anne’s Pantry with Jean Stratford continuing as Facilitator until her death in 2005. During her watch the volume of requests fluctuated but there was no sign of them abating. During 2001, 3,000 people received food through 800 parcels - an average of 16 per week.
During the last 15 years the Pantry has continued with the facilitation of various people including Diane Stuart (with husband Bob) and Val Grace who retired in 2019. This year Sofia Ali and Margaret Alve lead the Pantry operation.
The Pantry continues to receive referrals from Porirua Citizens Advice Bureau. This year requests via a Parish website form has increased awareness and accessibility for people who are needful of food support. During 2020 with Covid-19 requests for Pantry food parcels have increased significantly.
The Khandallah Presbyterian Church (among many others) continues to support the Pantry as it did in the beginning back in 1984.

St Anne's Pantry has joined a super group of unions, children’s organisations, service providers and church groups calling on the government to raise benefit rates before Christmas.
The NGOs have signed an open letter addressed to PM Jacinda Ardern, Minister for Social Development Carmel Sepuloni and Minister for Finance Grant Robertson stating the situation is urgent.
We have responded to this letter as follows:
The open letter lists record breaking unemployment increases, and the surge in demand for emergency hardship grants and youth homelessness support as reasons for the government to increase income support rates.
The open letter finishes by stating “Before the election, the Labour party has consistently said there's more work to be done to lift families out of poverty. You now have the mandate and opportunity to do so. Please increase income support before Christmas.”

St Anne's Pantry is an emergency food charity operating in Porirua City and the Linden suburb of Wellington City. A team of 15 volunteers contribute to its running 5 days per week and 7 days during the Level 3 & 4 pandemic lockdowns March-June 2020. A summary of the true value of operation is indicated below and demonstrates how much donated finance, time, travel and grocery items contribute to running the Pantry - an estimated value of $189,632 for the ten months to 31 October 2020.
During this period 855 emergency food parcels were delivered. The true cost of delivering each parcel is therefore $221.80 using the figures below.
